After an explosive season on both sides of the ball, the Bulldogs of Fresno state felt the pain of the cross-country Chicago rains, Saturday the 21st, as their undefeated season came to a close in a 45 to 20 rout against the USC Trojans; needless to say falling short of their usual dog treat.

It was the battle of the Bakersfield boys, as old friends Kessler and Carr took to the field to see who would reign superior. Trojans quarterback, Cody Kessler, came up big on the day- going for an impressive 22 for 30, throwing for 4 TDs equating to 345 yards passing and holding to only one interception. A bowl record, Kessler was feeling the love and luck of ol’ Vegas.

Bulldogs quarterback, Derek Carr on the other hand, unfortunately did not have the hot hand on the day as his 29 of 54- 216 passing yards, 2 TDs, and single interception was not enough to overcome the charging Trojans offense (accompanied by receiving leader- Marqise Lee and rush man- Javorius Allen); causing him and the usually dominate State squad to fold.

“Blame me. Blame me always,” Carr said. “I’ve got to do a better job of leading, and I’ve got to do a better job of getting our guys in better spots. That’s my fault.”

Despite the final game loss, the Fresno State Bulldogs went 11-2 on the season; while the Trojans despite the dramatic exit of their former coach Lane Kiffin in September, came roaring back to ending the season 10-4 after a mid to late season statement win over Stanford.
