A tripped up Red Sox third baseman, Will Middlebrooks, led to a tripped up and fallen third to home Cardinal runner, Allen Craig, that then spiraled to what may now be known as the most bizarre ending to a World Series game ever.
Third base umpire called Middlebrooks on obstruction of the runner coming to home, making Craig safe and the Cardinals the default winners of Game 3, 5-4.
“I just know I have to dive for that ball. I’m on the ground. There’s nowhere for me to go,” Middlebrooks said.
Red Sox fans, management, and of course players enraged by this call know Game 4 is a statement game and one they must win to get themselves back in the series.
Game 4 starts tonight in St. Louis at 8:15 ET/5:15 Pacific.
