After losing 10 of their last 11 games and allowing 57 goals (the most in the Eastern Conference of the NHL thus far this season), the Panthers fire head coach, Kevin Dineen Friday.

When first arriving, Dineen looked to be the team’s saving grace as the Panthers won their first division title, breaking the ice of their non existent playoff appearance that stretched to last more than a decade. However, the 2013 season brought a change the team didn’t see coming as they find themselves back at the end of the standings- leading to the termination of Coach Dineen’s contract and time leading the Panthers.

Florida Panthers General Manager stated, “It was clear that our team needed a change in philosophy and direction,” Tallon said. “We have not met the expectations that we set forth at training camp and it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to ensure that our club performs at its maximum potential.”

Peter Horachek will fill in the place of Dineen as the interim coach, as Tallon looks to build upon making the Panthers one of the NHL’s most dominant franchises once again.
