Louisville’s Ware Returns

Chanel Ray

NCAA Basketball: Big East Tournament-Louisville vs Syracuse

In a pleasant surprise for fans and teammates, junior guard Kevin Ware returned to the court Wednesday night, after receiving a crowd standing ovation in Louisville’s preseason home game against Pikeville.

It had been 220 days since Ware’s notoriously gruesome incident during March Madness that resulted in a broken leg and the whole world wondering when and how he could ever come back from such an injury. After the Cardinals went on to win the NCAA Tournament and dedicated their win in due part to Ware’s contribution and spirit to the team, his recovery process became one to prove all wrong. Not only would he come back healed, healthy, and ready to play, but even better than he was before he suffered his injury.

“Once I hit the first shot, it took away all of the jitters.”

Ware scored 6 points and scooped up 4 rebounds Wednesday, as he looks forward to Louisville’s season opener Saturday.
