From Fresno to Oakland, former Bulldog star quarterback, Derek Carr, has taken his talents to the Bay Area and been given “the keys to the ignition” after being named the Raiders new leading man as of Monday.
Despite losing to the Trojans of USC in his final collegiate game in the Las Vegas Bowl last December, Carr couldn’t feel more confident heading into his first season in the NFL. In addition to being named the only rookie to start Week 1, he added to his new professional resume by tacking on an impressive 31-21 final preseason game win over the defending champion, Seattle Seahawks.
It’s no secret the Raiders have been dealt the short end of the stick for quite some time- suffering devastating injuries to key players, having failed coaching changes over the years, as well as multiple player trades that went sour- making it more understandable that their last playoff appearance was during the Bush administration… Jr. that is.
It is because of this struggle, that although being the veteran and therefore being seemingly disappointed to have to be “2nd best”, Matt Schaub has taken the change like the 11-year professional he is. Knowing it is for the greater good of the team, he and the rest of the Raider squad and organization look ahead to Sunday, where they will be on the road to face Geno Smith and the New York Jets.
Stay tuned for more… this is Point Blank Sports.
