The night was right for the bearded Boston boys, as their 6 runs in a Game 6 at home in Fenway Park Wednesday night, put the cap on an 8th title grasping World Series.
Finally getting to Wacha, the injured, but game returning right fielder Shane Victorino, came up big for the Sox as he hit an RBI double off the Green Monster in the 3rd to bring in 3 runs and again singled to left in the 4th to bring in Series MVP, David Ortiz, despite his still irritated back.
This win, however, symbolized something unlike any of those previous. A fallen city after the tragic April Marathon Bombings finally had a sense of self again, with hope restored. Something to celebrate and represent with pride. Their beloved Red Sox had brought home the Title.
“This is for you, Boston. You guys deserve it,” said Ortiz, the Series MVP. “We’ve been through a lot this year and this is for all of you and all those families who struggled.”
An emotional and truly phenomenal comeback by a Boston Red Sox team that had a 30-1 chance to win the World Series just a year ago. Now that is one serious fact.
The Boston Red Sox will proudly watch their banner be raised on Opening Day next Spring at home when they host the Milwaukee Brewers.
