Tigers advance to ALCS against the Red Sox

Division Series - Detroit Tigers v Oakland Athletics - Game Five

The Tigers said good-bye A’s, hello ALCS for the third straight year as they shut out the fighting green and yellow in their home stadium Thursday night.

Behind Cabrera’s clutch homer in the 4th and the unstoppable “man on the mound”, Justin Verlander’s 10 strikeouts, the A’s were unable to create any kind of plausible to pull from behind and come out with a W.

Not only did Verlander pitch a shut out and statistically tack on 10 strikeouts to his nightly resume, his Thursday night ALDS game winning performance also landed him a spot in the record books with 30 straight scoreless innings in the postseason against the Oakland A’s.

Although the celebrating has begun, Verlander and his troops know the series ahead is yet another battle against a team who is also in familiar territory being in the ALCS, however it is a step towards the ultimate goal they feel again can be reached and achieved.
